COVID-19

I never thought it would take a pandemic to get me back to the blog, but here we are… In light of the corona virus/COVID-19, we’ve drafted a letter to communicate what our farm is doing to be proactive about health safety.

Dearest customers,

Come what may, we are absolutely going to do our best to continue to grow and distribute the best, healthiest food we can. We want to ensure our community has access to nutritious local food during good times and bad, and we are so grateful to you for supporting us in this endeavor!

We also want to be very clear about what we are doing on our farm to ensure the safety of your food:

  • No more than 2-4 people will every come in contact with your food: we are a very small team.

  • We do not work when we are sick and will be extra vigilant about ensuring only healthy crew are handling your food. We care deeply about our crew and customers alike, and will always prioritize health over everything else.

  • We adhere to best food safety practices on the farm and will be doubling down on those efforts, including:

    • Washing and sanitizing all surfaces that come in contact with produce

    • Washing our hands before harvesting or handling any produce

    • Wearing nitrile gloves for harvest and packing of produce

    • Storing all food in clean, sanitized bins at the proper temperatures

We hope that you will continue to shop with us, knowing the caution and seriousness with which we approach harvesting, washing, packing, and selling our produce. Times like now make it more evident than ever that local food systems are deeply important.

Eating lots of veggies during a time of widespread illness is a great way to boost your immune system. Being able to trust your source of vegetables is even better!

Thank you for trusting us yesterday, today, and in the weeks to come.

Right now, the best way to get our produce is through our farm share program. Depending on how things progress we may expand the program to serve more people with pre-ordered food to minimize any potential health risks at our farm stands. If you’re not already in our farm share community, sign up for the wait-list here and stay tuned for updates!

We are currently planning to go ahead with our weekly farm stands beginning the first week in April. However, we will likely be making some modifications to ensure the highest health standards possible. Please be patient with us as we navigate this new world. We are doing our best to serve you, and we need your help to keep our farm going strong!

In good health and with lots of love,

The Thornfield Farm Team
